Spin - Antispam operation
What is spam?
Spam is electronic mail massively sent to several
recipients who did not ask to receive it, and
constitutes one of the biggest problems plaguing today's Internet.
The most common variety of spam is
Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (UCE).
Due to the low cost associated with the transmission of e-mail messages,
many businesses or single individuals become tempted by the idea of
promoting their products or services by massive mailings to a large
number of recipients, who are usually uninterested in receiving these
informations. Result: mailboxes invaded by every sort of "trash",
wasting computer resources but, above all, wasting the time
that the recipient has to spend to download, select and discard
all the unwanted messages.
Spin believes that any kind of spam is harmful, and fights it vigorously
on several fronts since 1997, by means of a dedicated
operation unit.
We employ a significant fraction of our resources to prevent the entrance
of spam in our mail servers, and to report cases of received spam.
On these pages we present our policies,
we share with you the main technical aspects of our spam fight, we answer the most common
questions and give you a few suggestions and links.
